book ends podcast: phil meets lisa jewell!

Lisa's latest book was my summer read :)

The second episode of Book Ends is now available and the guest is best-selling UK author Lisa Jewell, one of my very favourite writers.  To say I was pinching myself as I popped around to her place for a cup of Earl Grey and a chat about all things writing was a vast, vast understatement!

I have read every single one of Lisa's books (I had lost count though, if you listen to the podcast you'll understand!) and have often re-read them, many times, over the years.  They certainly make for compulsive reading!  Her books remind me that there is so much pleasure to be found in reading. Reading for the sheer joy of it, to be lost in a good story.  I first discovered Lisa's work when I moved to London and was settling into the city and getting to know it.  I loved how familiar all the settings in her work became to me - I got a giddy thrill out of going to a part of London where scenes in her books took place, or where certain characters lived.  Her books became guides to London for me, in a way :)

I so enjoyed our conversation - Lisa was very funny, charming and generous with sharing her experiences and dispensing advice for those of us who are new to the writing game.  I particularly appreciated the advice about the need to compartmentalise your life when you work for yourself, so that you don't have to do everything in the same time in the same place.  Talking to Lisa also reminded me that publishing is very much a numbers game.....and you only need one person to say yes!!

I hope you'll enjoy listening to our chat - it's right here.  You can also subscribe to the podcast in iTunes so you'll be informed straight away of future episodes.

Have a happy and inspiring Wednesday :)
