monday mantra

This is one of my favourite quotes.  It kept popping into my head this weekend as I watched the Olympics and saw so many strong, determined, powerful women compete and cross the finish lines, come what may (I shed a few tears during the women's triathlon!).

There is so much that I want to write about the Olympics - how every country taking part has female competitors and there is now no Olympic sport women cannot compete in - but overall I just hope so much that young women all over the world are inspired watching these Games, seeing what you can achieve with dedication, hard work and determination; how amazing it is to be strong and fit and healthy; how empowering and exhilarating it is to participate in a sport and challenge yourself to your very limits.  Especially when it is something you never in a million years thought you could do.  I hope they are inspired by the strength, courage and talent of these athletes to take charge of their own destinies, to pursue things they love, to do their best, and to be the heroines of their own lives.

And I hope the media continue to give these inspirational female athletes the airtime and exposure they deserve.  These are the true role models; the women who really deserve to be on the front covers of magazines.

Are you enjoying watching the Olympics?

What is Monday Mantra?
I love inspirational quotes and about seven years ago, when I had no motivation, no direction and no idea how to make my life what I wanted it to be, I read something that changed everything. It was a small quote in a magazine, from the Australian marathon runner Pat Farmer. He said “if you really want to do something, in your heart of hearts, you will find a way. But if you don’t really want to do something, you will always find an excuse.”
It was so fantastic….and made so much sense. It became my mantra. It still is.

Now, through my various trawls through the internet, I see many things that catch my eye and fire me up, and I want to share these with you. So I put them all together and post one a week. Something that I think is worth sharing, something that I think is good to be reminded of.  Something that might just be for you what that Pat Farmer quote was for me.
